Newspapers cut more than 3,700 jobs in 2011

The attrition of print journalists continues.  The Paper Cuts blog reports that the newspaper industry cut at least 3,775 jobs in 2011.  That's up 30 percent from 2010.  PR Newser has more on how this year's staff reductions are having an impact on public relations here.

New York Times sells newspapers

The New York Times Company is selling its smaller and mid-sized newspapers, officials announced Monday.  They're in discussions with the Halifax Media Holdings group to buy 16 regional newspapers, stretching from California to North Carolina, as well as Louisiana to Florida.

Another Murdoch owned newspaper could close soon

The troubled News Corp. could soon close its second newspaper in six months.  The Huffington Post report that deputy chief operating officer James Murdoch is not ruling out closing the Sun newspaper in Great Britain amid allegations of phone hacking.  The News of the World newspaper shut down in July.
