AOL puts Patch layoffs on hold, to start in earnest this week

The constantly changing world of online media has led to one of the industry's leading companies laying off employees at its hyperlocal experiment.

Despite briefly putting them on hold Friday, officials at AOL announced that they're selling or shutting down between 300-500 of their sites on Patch.com.  But according to the St. Louis Business Journal, AOL CEO Tim Armstrong expects the layoffs to begin in earnest sometime this week.
