How to make your content compelling

It's out there everywhere you look when you go online.

Content, content, and more content.

On the Internet, content comes in many forms: Audio. Video. Print. Text.

But how do you make that content more compelling? Three quick tips:

1. Grab your listener's, reader's, or viewers attention...fast!!!: According to the International News Media Association (INMA), the average attention span of an adult is around 2.8 seconds.  That means when you produce content, and post it online, if you can't get the reader's attention in three seconds, or at least get them reading past the first paragraph, they'll move on to something more useful.  Which leads us to No. 2...

2. Know your target audience:  Who is the target audience for your content? Communications and public relations professionals? Journalists? Authors?  Teens? Young adults? Or older adults?  After all, what's the use of writing a blog post or other content if no one is going to read it.  In order to reach the right people, you must know your target audience.

3.  What do you hope to accomplish by producing content?  That's the main question you should ask yourself.  Is it to educate potential clients or customers about your product or company? Or is there a motive that goes beyond just simply making money?  The more you ask that question, the better your chances of producing content that matters to your target audience.

And there you have it.  Three quick tips to your content more compelling.  Content that people will read if you do it right.
